SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) - Two Caroline County brothers have died after their vehicle veered off the road while driving to Spotsylvania High School, where they were students.

Virginia media outlets are reporting that 18-year-old Ian Brown and 15-year-old Jalen Brown were killed Thursday morning. The teenagers had been traveling west on state Route 639 when their vehicle veered off the road and struck some trees. Both victims were wearing their seatbelts and were pronounced dead at the scene.

State police Sgt. Stephan M. Vick says the boys’ mother, a teacher at the school, was about two minutes behind her sons in a separate car. She approached the crash scene soon after it happened.

Police are working to determine the cause of the crash. Vick says neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors.
