SMALLWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 70-year-old man was found dead in his bedroom following a fire at his New York home.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (https://bit.ly/1NgF1yv ) the fire broke out just after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Smallwood. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to control it.

Investigators say an autopsy of the man was conducted Thursday. They haven’t immediately identified him.

Sullivan County Public Safety Commissioner Dick Martinkovic says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. But he’s “almost positive” it was accidental.
