GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents are investigating after a woman who authorities say fired a gun and then pointed it at Berkeley County deputies was shot and killed by one of the officers.

Local media outlets report the shooting happened outside Goose Creek about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Berkeley County spokesman Michael Mule says officers responded to the scene to find a woman randomly firing a gun. He says they tried to take the woman into custody but a deputy fired when she pointed the gun at the officers.

The coroner’s office says 36-year-old Laura Lemieux died about 75 minutes later at a hospital.

Authorities have not yet released any other details of the investigation.
