KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee guard Diamond DeShields won’t play in the fourth-ranked Lady Vols’ exhibition game Monday against Carson-Newman.

Lady Vols coach Holly Warlick said Friday that DeShields would miss the exhibition game and that “we’re kind of taking it still day by day” regarding whether the North Carolina transfer would play in the Nov. 15 season opener with Central Arkansas.

Tennessee has been cautious with DeShields, who appeared in just one of the U.S. team’s six games at the World University Games this summer. Warlick cited shin splints when DeShields didn’t play in Tennessee’s August tour of Italy.

DeShields has said she recovered from a nagging leg injury while sitting out last season.

Warlick said Friday that DeShields is “doing more, a lot of half-court stuff” and is “advancing, really, really well.”
