BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Domes have been installed atop a 179-year-old church in Bay City.

The Bay City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1WExXRj ) onlookers gathered on Thursday outside the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church to watch crews use a crane to install the domes.

The Rev. David A. Hannes says the three domes are similar in style to those found atop churches in Ukraine and Russia, are more than just an ornate topping at the church. He says the domes are “external spiritual expressions of what must be believed in.”

There previously were crosses installed atop the church, which has about 65 households. The three domes cost the church about $10,000.
