ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage fire officials say an elderly man died after a fire at a local home.

Officials say the man was discovered Friday inside the smoke-filled structure on Lake Otis Parkway near an elementary school in South Anchorage. Officials did not immediately release the name of the man, who died at a hospital.

Officials say firefighters responded at about 8:40 a.m. after getting a call from someone reporting smoke from the structure. Officials say the caller did not indicate anyone was inside the building.

Officials say a firefighter fell through an exterior deck and interior floor during the initial attack of the fire. Officials say the firefighter was not injured but a warning was issued to arriving responders.

Authorities are investigating the blaze. Officials say no working smoke alarms were immediately found.
