PHOENIX (AP) - Former GoDaddy executive and Republican candidate for Arizona governor Christine Jones has been named interim CEO of charter school operator Great Hearts Academies.

The appointment announced Friday comes two years after Jones joined the board of the operator of charter schools in the Phoenix area and in San Antonio and Irving, Texas.

Great Hearts runs 28 public charter schools that have more than 13,000 students.

Great Hearts chairman Jay Heiler says the organization need to achieve operational as well as academic excellence and Jones will help advance that effort.

Jones is an accountant and attorney who was general counsel for website hosting company GoDaddy. She placed third in a five-way race for the Republican nomination for governor last year and has considered running for other offices since then.
