BROOKVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The man chosen by a Republican Party caucus to complete the term of former Indiana House Majority Leader Jud McMillin has taken his oath of office.

Rep. Randall Lyness of West Harrison was sworn in Friday by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Brent Dickson in the chamber of the House of Representatives.

Lyness, a business owner, says he’s “excited to work alongside my colleagues and find solutions to the issues impacting southeast Indiana and our state.” His district includes all of Union County and portions of Dearborn and Franklin counties.

Lyness was chosen by a GOP caucus Oct. 22, shortly after McMillan resigned his seat after sending a text message to acquaintances, apologizing for “anything offensive” sent to them from his cellphone, without elaborating.
