BETTENDORF, Iowa (AP) - A heroin addict who has admitted to injecting a Bettendorf woman with a fatal dose of the drug in December 2013 has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1Mg0yHE ) that 26-year-old Kyle J. Wilson also was ordered Thursday to serve five years of supervision after his release from prison and to undergo mental health and drug treatment.

Wilson pleaded guilty last year to one count of delivery of heroin resulting in death.

Wilson injected 55-year-old Kathi L. Sweeney with heroin in the parking lot of a Rock Island drug store on Dec. 15, 2013 and stayed at her apartment throughout the night. He left in her car the next morning with several of Sweeney’s belongings to pawn for drug money.

Her family found her dead later that day.
