PHOENIX (AP) - Federal authorities say a man wanted in California in connection with a shooting has been arrested in Arizona.

U.S. Marshals Service officials say 23-year-old Daniel Villegas has been booked into a Phoenix jail and is awaiting extradition.

They say Villegas was arrested without incident Wednesday at a Phoenix home after hiding at an area hotel for several weeks.

Authorities say Villegas is wanted by Los Angeles police on suspicion of attempted murder.

They say Villegas was involved in a Sept. 21 argument with his then-girlfriend outside of her residence.

A male friend of Villegas’ girlfriend reportedly approached the arguing couple.

Villegas took out a handgun and allegedly shot the man in the head and then fled the scene.

Authorities say the victim survived, but sustained severe head injuries.
