PARISH, N.Y. (AP) - A 27-year-old New Jersey man and his 23-year-old female passenger have died in a one-car crash on Interstate 81 in upstate New York.

State police say Michael Lopresti, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was traveling northbound on Thursday night in the Town of Parish north of Syracuse when his 1994 Ford veered off the four-lane highway and struck a tree.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m.

Both Lopresti and Cecilia Phillips, of Washington, New Jersey, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the crash.
