EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Northwestern is set to break ground on a lakefront athletics and recreation complex.

The school says a formal ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 13.

A fieldhouse that will include an indoor multipurpose facility for football practice along with Olympic sports teams practices and competitions and recreational use is one of the centerpieces of the project.

The complex will also include a building to house academic support services for more than 500 athletes, a nutrition center and dining facility, a sports performance center, and office space for coaches and administrators.

In a statement released Friday, athletic director Jim Phillips calls it a “landmark day” for the university and says the facilities will “seamlessly integrate athletics into the heart of campus.”
