NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - University of Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley says he’s not a candidate to become head coach at North Texas.

Riley issued a statement through the university on Friday saying he understands reports have linked him to the opening at North Texas, but that he is “absolutely not a candidate” for the job. Riley says he’s focused on helping OU win the Big 12 Conference championship.

North Texas fired coach Dan McCarney on Oct. 10 after the Mean Green fell to 0-5 following a 66-7 homecoming loss to Portland State. North Texas is now 1-7 after winning its first game of the season last Saturday, 30-23 over Texas-San Antonio.
