McCOMB, Miss. (AP) - A memorial service is being held Saturday at First Baptist Church in McComb for retired Circuit Judge Joe N. Pigott.

The 90-year-old Pigott died Tuesday at Ochsner-Baptist Medical Center in New Orleans.

Pigott was a World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Starting in 1963, Pigott served nine years as district attorney for Copiah, Lincoln, Pike and Walthall counties. He returned to private law practice in 1972 and was elected circuit judge in 1974, remaining in that position until 1992.

Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Jim Kitchens knew Pigott for 48 years and followed him as district attorney. Kitchens says in a news release that Pigott commanded respect on the bench and was “a strong believer in the second chance.”
