BAYOU CANE, La. (AP) - Officials in the Bayou Cane area of Terrebonne Parish are celebrating the opening of a new affordable-rent apartment complex.

The Houma Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1kdJYBv ) that a ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday for the complex for low- and middle-income families.

The Terrebonne Parish Council approved the use of $5.7 million in Community Development Block Grant money for the project in July 2013. The project was awarded to Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corp., a subsidiary of Volunteers of America.

The remainder of the $13.5 million project will be covered by tax credits.
