TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Tampa Bay area road construction worker was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the 33-year-old man was working on a stretch of U.S. 41 in Hillsborough County early Friday morning when a Honda Civic crashed through cone barricades and hit him. The driver took off but then crashed again a short time later.

The construction worker was taken to a Tampa hospital in critical condition.

The car’s driver, 26-year-old Edwin Bryan Rodriguez, sustained minor injuries. A crash report says he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and several other counts. He was being held on $10,750 bail. Jail records didn’t list an attorney.
