STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Routt County District Attorney’s Office has dropped murder charges against a woman originally accused of participating in killing Edward Zimmerman.

Steamboat Pilot & Today reports (https://bit.ly/1law3MC ) that Kristen Johnson pleaded guilty Thursday to false reporting and obstructing an officer.

Prosecutors say the new charges better reflect the role she played. Her now ex-husband Lucas Johnson is still being held for Zimmerman’s murder.

Authorities say Zimmerman was found shot in the face, strangled and beaten in a shed in the Johnsons’ backyard in March.

Defense Attorney Tina Tussay says the new charges against Kristen Johnson stem from cleaning out a car and not telling authorities who her husband had been with.

Tussay says Lucas Johnson had been growing marijuana for Zimmerman.

Lucas Johnson’s next court date is Dec. 4.
