LOS ANGELES (AP) - Environmental advocates are suing Los Angeles, contending the city rubber-stamped unsafe oil drilling near homes and schools in minority neighborhoods.

The suit, filed Friday, alleges the city permitted new wells to be placed at oil extraction sites without proper environmental reviews. The suit says the practice has disproportionately affected black and Latino neighborhoods.

It was filed on behalf of youngsters living near drilling sites in South Los Angeles and Wilmington.

The planning department and city attorney’s office tell the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1WDwBeL) that they will review the lawsuit.
