CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A service employees union is endorsing Democratic state Sen. Joyce Woodhouse in what’s expected to be a tough re-election bid.

The SEIU Local 1107 announced Friday that it’s endorsing the retired educator now so union members can start spreading the word in the year ahead of the election.

Woodhouse represents Senate District 5, which includes parts of Henderson. Democrats have a slight registration advantage, but a sizeable number of registered nonpartisans who could swing the vote mean it’s a prime pickup opportunity for Republicans seeking to maintain their Senate majority.

Republicans have endorsed charter school principal Carrie Buck for the seat.

Woodhouse served in the state Senate for one term before losing the 2010 election to Republican Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson. She won a Senate seat again in 2012.
