DETROIT (AP) - An annual parade to honor veterans is taking place in Detroit as part of two weeks of events around Veterans Day for those who served in the military.

The parade takes place Saturday and there’s also a festival for veterans at Hart Plaza.

The Wayne County Veteran Services Division will be at the events around the county, which has tens of thousands of veterans.

Wayne County Executive Warren Evans says in a statement the county’s participation in the events “expands the reach of our programs and allows us to personally thank the veterans for the sacrifices they have made to protect the freedoms we now enjoy.”

Other events include the Detroit Police Department’s Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday as well as resource events and a job fair.
