WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia police have identified the victims in two recent fatal shootings as the city continues to endure a major increase in homicides.

Police say 24-year-old Charles Newell of Waldorf, Maryland, was fatally shot Friday afternoon in the Deanwood neighborhood of northeast Washington. Police found him after hearing gunshots, and he died at a hospital.

Early Saturday morning, police say 28-year-old Reginald Perry of Washington was fatally shot in the Shaw neighborhood of northwest Washington. Police say officers heard gunshots and were told that the victim was at a hospital, where he died.

Police have not identified any suspects in either case.

There have been 138 homicides in the District this year, an increase of more than 50 percent over this time last year.
