WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (AP) - A service outage has caused a temporary shutdown of the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles phone center.

DMV spokesman Bill Seymour said a Saturday morning service outage from the Verizon phone company prevented the center from making or receiving calls for hours.

He told the Hartford Courant that the problem was discovered around 7:30 a.m. and resolved at around 10:30 a.m. The DMV closed for the day at 12:30 p.m.

Seymour said it appears a circuit issue caused the problem. DMV customers were urged to check the DMV website at ct.gov/dmv for answers to questions that they might be seeking from phone center operators Saturday.
