ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Former North Carolina U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan is back in the political spotlight after announcing she wouldn’t try to seek a return trip to Capitol Hill next year.

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign said Hagan would give her endorsement to the former Secretary of State for the Democratic nomination at a Saturday regional gathering of the National Federation of Democratic Women in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Clinton participated in a televised Democratic candidates’ forum Friday evening in Rock Hill.

Hagan was elected to the Senate in 2008, beating Republican Elizabeth Dole. Hagan lost to Thom Tillis last year. She said in June she wouldn’t try in 2016 to challenge North Carolina’s other senator, Richard Burr.
