CINCINNATI (AP) - A judge has awarded $7.5 million to the family of a 7-year-old Ohio girl who was mauled by two pit bulls last year - but they may never see any of the money.

Zainabou Drame, of Cincinnati, has undergone at least a dozen surgeries since the June 2014 attack. Her attorney says she can no longer talk, drink, or eat solid food and that she uses a feeding tube.

A judge this week upheld the judgment against the owner of the dogs and his mother. But the money is considered uncollectable because the dogs’ owner currently is serving a two-year prison term for trafficking marijuana.

Court documents show Zainabou’s medical bills have amounted to more than $1 million. The family didn’t have health insurance at the time.
