SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The lawyer for a former Vermont teacher of the year who’s been fired over unspecified allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student says the dismissal will be appealed.

Attorney Lisa Shelkrot calls the allegations against South Burlington teacher Jay Hoffman outrageous and false.

The South Burlington School Board announced Friday it was firing the middle school technology teacher. The board did not provide details of the allegations against Hoffman, but said they involved inappropriate conduct with a student during the 2005 school year.

Hoffman was named Vermont teacher of the year in 2013.
