JOHNSTON, Iowa (AP) - The Johnston Community School District has announced it will install more cameras on its school buses after a driver was accused of assaulting a special needs student last week.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (https://bit.ly/1kBcDjv ) that officials hope the cameras will prevent such incidents in the future.

Two buses currently have cameras, but the district has ordered cameras for eight more buses. The district has 80 buses.

The cameras will be mounted near the front of the bus, with a view of all students in their seats.

A district bus driver was arrested and placed on leave late last month after students on a bus recorded an incident on their cellphones that appears to show the driver hitting a 15-year-old boy on the bus.
