PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Officials say nine inmates at a women’s prison in Pierre have tested positive for using methamphetamine.

The Argus Leader (https://argusne.ws/1NisdaK) reports that South Dakota Department of Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk said Friday that the department had information that meth was inside the South Dakota Women’s Prison.

He says officials tested all the inmates they believed had access to the drug. The state Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the issue.

Kaemingk says an inmate had meth hidden inside a body cavity and transferred into the facility. The inmate may be charged for bringing meth to the prison.

The agency is weighing whether to recommend charges for the inmates who tested positive for using the methamphetamine.
