WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A pedestrian has been killed after being struck by two cars while trying to cross a city street during rush hour.

Worcester police say the accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. Friday in the area of 98 Chandler St.

The unidentified 55-year-old man suffered extensive injuries and died in the emergency room shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Police say the man had been standing near the centerline of the roadway when he was struck by a Honda Accord. The impact sent him into the opposing lane of traffic where he was then hit by a Jeep Liberty.

Both drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators. Police say the man’s name won’t be released until all appropriate family members are notified.
