LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police officers serving the Clark County School District shot and killed a driver who was speeding erratically through a park with children nearby.

The Clark County School District Police Department says the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday near Maryland Parkway and Wigwam Avenue.

According to authorities, the driver hit a Las Vegas police patrol unit and did not stop.

The driver then allegedly sped on and entered the park.

District officers, who were already there for an unrelated incident involving two juveniles, say the driver was heading toward them.

They pulled the juveniles out of the way and then opened fire, killing the driver.

Both officers were uninjured but are on paid administrative leave.

Las Vegas police is assisting with the investigation.
