BOSTON (AP) - Hundreds of volunteers will be going door-to-door in Boston this weekend to personally thank men and women who have served in the U.S. military.

“Operation Thank a Vet” is a citywide effort to honor Boston’s veterans. Mayor Martin Walsh said he sees no better way to celebrate Veterans Day next week than to thank the city’s veterans.

On Wednesday, the city and 11 partner agencies hosted the first ever “housing surge” for veterans at the Pine Street Inn. Sixty homeless veterans met with representatives to get a better understanding of housing resources available to them.
