PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a woman has died after she was struck by a pickup truck.

Police spokesman James Holmes says the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday at 17th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.

According to Holmes, the woman was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when she was hit.

The truck’s driver stayed at the scene and tried to administer first aid.

Police pronounced her dead at the scene.

Holmes says investigators do not believe driver impairment was a factor.

The pedestrian’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The accident led police to close the intersection for several hours.
