SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say two children were critically hurt and two adults were also injured after a head-on collision in Taylorsville.

Unified police spokesman Ken Hansen said Sunday a 4-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy were in critical and serious condition, respectively.

Police initially reported the girl had died but she was revived and airlifted to a hospital.

The accident happened Saturday around 3:15 p.m. when the car driven by the children’s mother crossed the median and collided with a truck.

The 31-year-old mother is in serious condition. The 72-year-old man driving the truck is in fair condition.

Hansen says investigators are still trying to determine where the children were in the vehicle and if they were properly restrained.

Police are looking into whether impairment or distracted driving was a factor.
