SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) - Republican state Sen. Jon Woods of Springdale says he will not run for re-election to a second term.

Woods announced Saturday that he wants to spend more time with family and friends after serving three terms in the House and one term in the Senate. He told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1SBRJMS ) that he’s been talking with his family since April about leaving the Legislature.

His current term ends in 2016. The filing period to run for state offices ends at noon Monday.

Woods was co-sponsor of a constitutional amendment that was passed by voters and extends term limits for lawmakers from three two-year terms in the House and two four-year terms in the Senate to a total of 16 years in the House, Senate or a combination of both.
