RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The Green Mountain National Forest is urging hunters to use extra caution while hunting on federal land.

Vermont’s annual rifle hunting season opens Nov. 14 and runs through Nov. 29.

Hunting is allowed on almost all of the 400,000 acres of the Green Mountain National Forest. The only exceptions are developed trails and recreation sites.

National Forest officials are urging hunters to check weather reports before hunting, dress properly and be prepared for the worst possible conditions. Hunters should wear blaze orange that is visible from all directions.

Hunters should only fire at clearly identified wildlife and know what is beyond their target.
