MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - A successful first year partnership with American Airlines through Express Jet is opening the door for expanded service at Meridian Regional Airport over the next couple of years.

The airport’s president, Tom Williams, said at a press conference Friday that airline representatives have been extremely positive in addressing proposals for more flights and the addition of another hub to complement the existing one in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Meridian Star reports (https://bit.ly/1HnA624 ) the addition of a second flight on Saturdays and Sundays is at the top of the list, followed by an additional hub on the east coast in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Williams says the airline has been monitoring boardings during the past year and is extremely pleased with the 322 percent increase in just the last 10 months.
