LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The firearm deer hunting season is set to open on Saturday, and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says this year’s prospects look good.

The commission says restrictions on antlerless deer permits in recent years have helped increase the deer population in most areas of the state.

Permits are still available, and may be purchased at OutdoorNebraska.org or at any Game and Parks permitting office. To check the availability of remaining permits, visit the website, then click on “Buy a Permit,” then “Remaining Permits.”

Hunters are reminded to that anyone hunting deer with a firearm permit during a firearm season must wear blaze orange. That includes archers hunting during the firearm season.

The firearm season closes on Nov. 22.
