LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles movie theater and part of an adjoining mall was evacuated after smoke came up from an underground power vault.

City fire officials say smoke was reported coming out of a sidewalk manhole cover outside the Westside Pavilion Sunday morning. There was no open flame.

Fire spokesman Shawn Lenske says power to the three-story structure was shut off and the building was evacuated as a precaution.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Water and Power tells the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1M0C3jN) the smoke may have come from insulation surrounding electric wiring.

Crews are making repairs in the vault.
