SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) - Police say a suspect was shot by a police officer in suburban Cleveland responding to a 911 call about a possible break-in.

Sgt. Parker Adrine (AY’-drihn) of the Shaker Heights Police Department says the shooting happened early Sunday morning after residents heard an alarm going off and believed someone was in their garage.

Adrine says Shaker Heights officers responded to the call and one of the officers shot an individual who confronted them in the garage.

Adrine says the suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Adrine wouldn’t say if the suspect was male or female or if the person had a weapon. The shooting remains under investigation.
