LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Former baseball great Andre Dawson will receive a “Living Legend” award at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.

Known on the baseball diamond as “The Hawk,” Dawson played most of his career with the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs.

Dawson says when he signed a contract with Louisville Slugger to use their bats, he felt like he had finally arrived as a professional.

Dawson began his professional career in 1975, and after 21 seasons he had amassed more than 2,700 hits. He was just the second player in league history to hit 400 home runs and steal 300 bases. He was the National League MVP in his first season with the Cubs in 1987.

Dawson’s close friend and former teammate Al Oliver will present the award at a ceremony at the museum.
