CLAY, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 74-year-old man is hospitalized after he was injured when he was hit by a car while walking his dog in central New York.

It happened at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday in Clay, just north of Syracuse.

Onondaga County sheriff’s Investigators say a Honda Civic was navigating a curve when it struck William Wilson and his dog. Police say the 24-year-old driver didn’t see the man and his dog due to the bright sun impairing his vision.

Wilson was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with serious injuries that aren’t life-threatening. His dog died at the scene.

The driver wasn’t hurt. Police don’t expect to issue any tickets.
