DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Institute of Arts is co-hosting the Banners and Cranks Festival this month.

The Nov. 19-22 event focuses on cantastoria, a form of performance art featuring paintings on banners, sung narration and pictures that move utilizing a crank mechanism.

The festival, which for several years has taken place in cities across the U.S., will feature performances by local, national and international artists around Detroit.

In addition to museum events, there are performances planned at Trumbullplex and CMAP, the Carrie Morris Art Production House.
