LEBANON, N.H. (AP) - A Boston hydropower developer is exploring the possibility of using two dams along a western New Hampshire river to generate electricity.

The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/1Sbc3DR ) Grafton Hydro has filed for a preliminary permit from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to find out if it’s feasible to generate power from the Mascoma Lake Dam and a new dam that would be constructed on the Mascoma River in Lebanon.

Executive Vice President Thomas Tarpey says he hopes to generate approximately 1.5 megawatts of power from the proposed downtown dam and generate 600 kilowatts from the Mascoma Lake Dam.

Officials say Tarpey would need to enter a lease agreement with the state to generate power from the Mascoma Lake Dam, which is owned by the state Department of Environmental Services Dam Bureau.
