SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police in San Jose say a gunman is dead and an officer has been injured in a shootout after an hours-long standoff.

Officer Albert Morales says police got a 911 call shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday that a gunman had forced a woman into a home in the Cambrian neighborhood, firing two shots into the ground before entering.

Officers sealed off the neighborhood and tried to negotiate with the man.

He said the suspect came out of the house with a gun as police were setting up a perimeter, leading officers to exchange gunfire with him.

The suspect died at the scene and the officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. The woman was found inside the house, but Morales declined to release information on her condition due to the ongoing investigation.
