SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - Police say a man is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds he suffered in a drive-by shooting in Salinas that left his dog dead.

The Monterey Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Pk6Wnh ) police say the 18-year-old victim had been walking his German shepherd Sunday night when a white Chevy Tahoe approached him.

A person inside the vehicle fired at the victim, who was struck several times. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The dog died at the scene after being hit by the gunfire.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
