BROWNSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a Pennsylvania high school senior had been chasing another vehicle and was being pursued by police when he smashed his car into a building, killing himself.

Troopers are expected to release more information Monday on the crash that killed 18-year-old Brownsville student Andre Smith.

Police say Smith had been chasing another driver, who called 911 for help. Police intervened and tried to pull over Smith but say he wouldn’t stop.

Police say Smith then drove the wrong way on a main street in town, failed to make a turn and smashed his car into an apartment building at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police say a “criminal incident” led to the chase. They haven’t elaborated on that.

Smith died of his injuries at Uniontown Hospital.
