LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) - A Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier accused of shooting a man in Lakewood has pleaded innocent to multiple charges.

Court documents say 22-year-old Jesse Suhanec was trying to take a man’s truck Thursday morning near the base when “things got out of control” and he fired nine shots into the vehicle.

The victim was hit several times and prosecutors said Monday he is in a medically-induced coma.

Prosecutors say after the shooting, Suhanec unsuccessfully tried to take two other vehicles, hid the gun and stayed in a hole for hours before the cold forced him out.

He eventually knocked on the door of a home nearby and the residents held him at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Suhanec pleaded not guilty Monday to assault, attempted burglary and robbery charges. His bail was set at $1 million.
