LANHAM, Md. (AP) - Two apartment buildings in Prince George’s County have been evacuated after firefighters say the buildings shook and massive cracks formed in the walls.

Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady says the incident happened late Saturday night in Lanham. The building shifted for as-of-yet unknown reasons. Brady says 22 apartment units in two of the buildings at the Carleton East apartments were affected. Because of structural damage, fire officials evacuated the buildings.

The gas lines were shut off Sunday as a precaution. A county building inspector was scheduled to check the property to determine the extent of the damage and when residents could return.

As of Monday morning, the front doors of those buildings were still boarded up.
