LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police have shot and killed a man after first trying to subdue him with non-lethal means.

Lt. John Jenal tells the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1MSXG9j ) that a report of a man acting strangely in traffic sent officers to the Lake Balboa neighborhood Monday afternoon.

Jenal says officers spotted the man and used a Taser on him, then shot bean-bag rounds before opening fire.

Other details weren’t immediately released.

Jenal says police don’t know why the man was acting bizarrely but they’ll try to determine if he had mental health issues or was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The man, who was in his 30s, is the 34th person shot by L.A. police this year. Nineteen died.
