ROME, Ga. (AP) - A Cedartown man has died after police say he was struck by a pickup truck as he tried to cross the road.

The Rome News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1kFo0XI) 54-year-old Ronnie Lee Scoggins died Saturday night.

Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard says Scoggins was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Rome Police Department officer Aaron Thacker says Scoggins was struck by the truck around 6:30 p.m. in Rome. Thacker says there is no crosswalk in the area where Scoggins was hit.

Thacker says witnesses told him that the truck was in the outside lane and didn’t appear to be speeding. Thacker says the driver told him that he didn’t have time to stop. No charges have been filed against the driver.
