UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - A man who prosecutors say fatally shot a 15-year-old boy to steal of pair of boots has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.

Twenty-four-year-old Tayvon Williams of Fort Washington was sentenced Monday in Prince George’s County District Court. He had pleaded second-degree murder and other offenses in the shooting death of Charles Walker Jr.

Prosecutors say on Feb. 18, 2013, Williams and four other men were driving around Hillcrest Heights in a stolen church van looking for someone to rob. Police say Walker was walking home from a mall with a pair of Timberland boots he had bought for his girlfriend.

Authorities say Williams and another man approached Walker and pointed a gun at him. Prosecutors say Walker tried to run away, and Williams shot him in the back.
